The Money Advice Trust, the charity that runs National Debtline and Business Debtline, has appointed two senior industry leaders to its Board of Trustees.
Lawrence Slade has served as Chief Executive Officer at Energy UK, the trade association for the UK energy industry, since July 2015. He previously ran the Energy Retail Association and the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
Paul Smee has served as director general of the Council of Mortgage Lenders since August 2011. He was previously chief executive of UK Payments and the Payments Council and was closely involved in the launch of Faster Payments Service.
Both new Trustees will commence their terms in September, while current members Jenny Watson CBE and Tracey Bleakley are standing down from the Board. Gail Scott-Spicer has been elected Deputy Chair.
Adam Sharples CB, chair of the Money Advice Trust, said “I am delighted to welcome Lawrence and Paul to the team. Both are senior leaders in their respective industries, and we look forward to benefiting from their extensive expertise on the Board. Their appointment reflects our aim of strengthening the Trust’s work with creditors in both financial services and a wider range of sectors. I would also like to thank Jenny Watson and Tracey Bleakley for their years of service on the Board, during which they have contributed significantly to the charity’s success.”
Joanna Elson OBE, chief executive of the Money Advice Trust, said “We look forward to working with Lawrence and Paul when they join the Board in September. They will be able to bring two different and unique perspectives on the challenge of tackling personal debt in the UK, as well as invaluable insight on the mortgage and energy sectors in particular. At a time of significant uncertainty over the UK economy, demand for debt advice is likely to continue to increase. With the support of our Trustees and Ambassadors, we look forward to continuing to help more people, more effectively in the years ahead.”
