Northern Irish business insolvencies increase whilst personal insolvencies fall

Latest monthly statistics from the Insolvency Service show that in May 2025, business insolvencies increased while personal insolvencies declined in Northern Ireland.

The data showed that there were 53 business insolvencies, which was 20% higher than in May 2024. The insolvencies were driven by an increase in compulsory liquidations. The insolvencies comprised of 33 compulsory liquidations, 13 CVLs, one CVA and six administrations.

There were no receivership appointments.

Personal insolvency data showed that there were 102 individual insolvencies in Northern Ireland. This was 29% lower than in May 2024. There were 71 IVAs, 16 bankruptcies and 15 DROs.
