TransUnion donates laptops to local schools

Credit reference agency TransUnion has donated laptops to a number of schools local to its UK headquarters in Leeds, to aid families with remote learning.

Manor Wood Primary, Primley Wood Primary, Harehill Primary, Guiseley Primary, Broadgate Primary and Beckfoot Upper Heaton were the six schools in the Leeds and Bradford area to receive a combined total of 60 laptops, to help struggling families get online for home learning during the third national lockdown.

The initiative was completed last month using refurbished laptops and enabled many students to access virtual live lessons. As schools now return to the classroom, the laptops will also support those that are isolating, to help minimise disruption.

Speaking on the effect of this donation at Beckfoot Upper Heaton secondary school in Bradford, Headteacher Graeme Wrightson said “The very kind donation we received of 10 laptops enabled some of our more disadvantaged students to access their online learning, making a very real difference to their lives right now, and also to their potential academic outcomes. All our staff have been working hard to deliver high quality online teaching throughout the pandemic and it has been an ongoing struggle to provide our most vulnerable students with devices, so we are very grateful indeed for this generosity from TransUnion.”

Tammy Taylor-Stowe, Chief Human Resources Officer at TransUnion said “At TransUnion we aim to give back to our local communities whenever we can, and education and child protection are key areas of focus for us, both globally and here in the UK. We’re delighted to have been able to support schools and their students at this difficult time and it’s wonderful to know that the provision of laptops will have a long-term impact on the learning of the most vulnerable students.”

“In addition to helping local schools, we also provided laptops to some of our colleagues to support home schooling their children; one of the many measures we’ve taken to help our employees during the pandemic.”
