
The Institute of Directors (IoD) has appointed John Browett as the new Chair of its board.
Browett takes over from Patrick Macdonald, whose three-year term as Chair ended after the Institute’s AGM yesterday. His appointment comes after a robust process overseen by the Nomination Committee which consists of members of the IoD Board and IoD Council.
Browett is the current Chair of Octopus Group and fraud prevention organisation Cifas, also holds a number of other non-executive positions. During his extensive executive career, working with both large and smaller companies, he was chief executive of Dunelm, Dixons and Monsoon Accessorize as well as Senior Vice President of Retail at Apple and Group Operations Development Director at Tesco.
David Langworth, Chair of the IoD Council and Chair of the Nominations Committee said “I am delighted to welcome John to the IoD. He was clearly the exceptional candidate for the role and brings a wealth of business experience that will be invaluable as we move forward.

Director General Jonathan Geldart also welcomed Mr Browett he said “John joins us as the Institute looks forward with confidence after the successful rebuilding work of recent years. We have a real opportunity to use this as a platform to build on our recent progress. I’m looking forward to working closely with John as we move on to the next stage of that development.”
