The number of decrees and the total amount of debt registered against Scottish consumers saw large rises in Q3 2021 compared to the same period last year, according to latest quarterly figures by Registry Trust.
The number rose from 2,805 to 3,487 in Q3 2021, a rise of nearly one quarter from Q3 2020. The total value saw an even bigger rise, up by 51 percent, from £7.6 million to £11.4 million. As a result, the average value rose by 21 percent, from £2,710 to £3,280. The median value rose by 29 percent, from £1,265 to £1,628.
interventions by government and regulators, and forbearance by creditors, in response to the Covid crisis had kept judgment numbers at historically low levels. But, as these measures were wound down, numbers have begun to rise again. The Covid economic crisis is far from over for financially vulnerable households.”
