Scottish business insolvencies increased by 19% in the final quarter of 2022

Latest quarterly figures from Accountant in Bankruptcy (AiB) have indicated that business insolvency numbers (liquidations and receiverships) in Scotland increased by 19% when compared with Quarter 4 2021.

In Quarter 4 2022, there were 313 total company insolvencies in Scotland,  the highest number since Quarter 4 2011.

The business insolvencies comprised 83 compulsory liquidations, 212 CVLs, 17 administrations and one CVA. There were no receivership appointments. 

The total liquidation rate in Scotland in 2022 was 45.7 per 10,000 active companies. This was up by 12.9 (from a rate of 32.8 per 10,000 active companies) from 2021.
