TransUnion and Leeds parter in Challenge90 for Yorkshire Cancer Research

7th February 2022

Global information and insights company TransUnion announces it has teamed up with Leeds United to be part of Challenge90 with the club’s official charity partner, Yorkshire Cancer Research.

Challenge90 encourages the Leeds United community to exercise for 90 minutes – the duration of a football match – every week until the end of the football season in May. The aim is to reduce the risk of cancer through regular exercise and maintaining a healthy weight, whilst also raising funds for the charity’s crucial research work.

Tammy Taylor-Stowe, Chief Human Resources Officer at TransUnion said “As a sponsor of Leeds United and part of the wider community, we’re delighted to get involved in Challenge90. By encouraging our colleagues to be active for 90 minutes a week in support of Yorkshire Cancer Research, we can help Leeds United continue to exceed their target before the end of the football season, whilst also supporting our colleagues’ health and wellbeing which continues to be a priority for us.”

Paul Bell, Executive Director at Leeds United said “The goal we set for Challenge90 was to achieve 100,000 minutes of exercise before the end of the football season. It’s really simple and we encourage people to do what they love – whether that’s team sports, running, cycling, swimming or walking. With the support from our fans, the community and partners like TransUnion, we can help Yorkshire Cancer Research to continue delivering the amazing work they do.

Yorkshire Cancer Research carried out a detailed analysis of the impact of exercise on cancer in the region. This highlighted the number of cases of cancer that are linked to a lack of regular exercise, whilst many more cancers can occur by not maintaining a healthy weight.

Dr Kathryn Scott, Chief Executive at Yorkshire Cancer Research, said “Research reveals that regular exercise can help prevent 13 different types of cancer, as well as helping people with cancer respond better to treatment and reduce the risk of cancer coming back. Challenge90 is helping to get Yorkshire moving, and alongside the Leeds United community, we can continue to march on cancer, together.”
