Nearly one in three UK households are worried about paying their winter bills, according to new figures from Ocean Finance.
With energy costs rising faster than many can cope with, families face a tough few months ahead whilst Ofgem warns that bills could rise by £75 next spring.
The survey also revealed that 33% of UK adults are struggling to afford broadband this winter with 42% have already cut back on basics such as heating and food.
A further 26% admitted to avoiding their bank balance entirely because of stress over upcoming costs.
Fiona Peake, Consumer Money Expert at Ocean Finance, said “Winter can feel like it’s quietly nicking money from your pocket before you’ve had a chance to sit down. 2026 is shaping up to be an expensive year, with Brits forking out even more to keep the lights on and the WiFi running.
“Many assume there’s nothing they can do, but with a few practical tweaks, it’s possible to save hundreds without making life miserable. Checking for discounts, switching providers, and reviewing your energy usage could leave you with extra cash in your pocket.”
